- Title Emerging Media Studies MA ’20
Prior to BU
I’ve been working in content creation and production within collegiate athletics for the last 10 years – I sort of fell into the industry just as the digital landscape was starting to take shape. I have a BA in studio art and MS in education, so much of my academic background up to this point has been in visual communication/expression and pedagogy. But I’ve always been fascinated with using media to tell stories, and I also really like gadgets. After years of developing video and social media skills through work experience and the occasionally supplementary course, I reached a point where I felt a classroom environment could best offer me space to explore the ways viewers and consumers interact with digital tools and respond to the content.
Why Emerging Media Studies
My decision to return to school had a lot to do with satisfying intellectual curiosities and finding a program that I wish had existed when I was starting out in school. I chose EMS specifically because it’s unique and the curriculum has a great mix of traditional theory mixed with new technology.
After Graduation
As I imagine my future, I’m not exactly sure where it will take me, but I’m excited to be furthering my knowledge in an academic environment while embracing new learning opportunities and projects. There are so many practical applications to my workplace. My favorite course thus far is Psychology of Emerging Media, but I also really love the lively conversations and guided debates around ethical issues within technological media that happen in all of my classes.
A Bit About Me
On my own time, I enjoy hiking in the White Mountains with my dog, playing soccer, taking photos, and beating my brother in our annual Oscars ballot competition.
