Prior to BU

Prior to enrolling at Boston University as an undergrad, I earned my associates degree in Liberal Arts from Middlesex Community College in Lowell, Mass. I knew before arriving at BU that journalism was my path. I had a passion for telling people’s stories so I searched out a local editorial internship at HOWL magazine the summer before arriving. This summer, I am currently heading to the Cape Cod Times to work as a photojournalist intern for the summer. I will then return for graduate studies and continue to freelance.

Why Journalism

In the Spring of 2016, the political climate of the United States was tense, the war in Syria was still claiming the lives of innocents, and media was fecing mlunting scrutiny. The esteemed undergraduate journalism program at Boston University has always been of interest to me. I was accepted by a number of other journalism programs throughout the country. But the faculty and alumni of Boston University appealed to me on a deeper level than most other programs. Boston is a smaller, but incredibly powerful media hub, and I quickly chose to pursue my journalistic passions at BU because of its history, location, and knowledgeable faculty.

Most Looking Forward To

As I enter my graduate studies at BU, I am looking to further my academic knowledge of journalism and especially visual journalism. This city allows me to take that academic knowledge and immediately put it into practice. During my undergraduate career, I was able to connect with professional photojournalists in the area. The mentorships and relationships I have found here have led me to win awards, find work, and gain a foothold in the industry while still in school. My graduate studies will allow me to further these relationships and put forth hard work in and outside of the classroom.

After Graduation

After graduating, I intend to focus my career goals on conflict photojournalism and the visual narratives surrounding societal issues and hardship around the world. It may take several years, but I am lrelared and excited to begin work as a photojournalist regardless of the location and duties.

A Bit About Me

I was born and raised in the Washington D.C. area. I have lived in Massachusetts long enough to be an avid Bruins fan and being a Terrier has allowed me to add to my hockey fan resume. I did not complete high school but instead returned to community college years later and have now earned two degrees. I’m often found walking the city or driving elsewhere to explore the visual narratives of Boston and Massachusetts. There is nothing more captivating to me than exploring the world around me and learning about things I know little about.
