Prior to BU

After graduating from Emerson College I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life, let alone my degree. I knew politics was still a passion of mine, but I did not know how to apply it. I also felt like a jack of all trades, master of none, and so I felt it was important to try new and different possible career paths. I tried a number of jobs and worked in many different environments. I had jobs raising money for progressive causes, managing in retail, and finally began working for a great company as a customer service representative.

Why Journalism

Eventually I began to feel that being comfortable in a job was not enough and that I needed to use my analytical and communication skills for something that had more personal meaning to me. In my undergraduate studies, I found myself most excited when I was analyzing current events or the narratives surrounding them. In my spare time I started blogging about the issues I was passionate about. Because of all this, I decided that the only path that made sense for me was to pursue a career in journalism. I had heard about the BU’s exceptional communications department and was excited by the prospect of becoming a part of it.

Most Looking Forward To

I am excited to learn more about the journalism industry from the experienced teachers in the program. I am also excited to get involved in BU’s vast and diverse community.

After Graduation

Hopefully I will be able to find a job in the industry as some kind of writer or radio journalist. I am most interested in print media and radio.

A Bit About Me

As a child, I was already a huge Lord of the Rings fan. I was lucky enough to grow up in the same area of northern New York as actor Viggo Mortensen who plays Aragorn in the movie series and who happened to attend one of the colleges in my town. When I was 8 years old he visited the college to do a poetry reading and meet and greet. I waited an hour and a half in line to meet him and get his autograph. When I walked up to say hi, I was wearing a t-shirt with the character Arwen on it. He smiled at me and told me I looked like an elf, so the t-shirt was fitting. I’ve long known this was the moment I peaked in life.
