The COM Grad Council is the voice of the graduate cohort. Comprised of students from every department, the Council’s goal is to improve the graduate experience here at COM. From planning social events, to creating professional development opportunities, and advocating for certain academic policies, there’s a lot that grad students have to stand up for.

Duties: The president of the Grad Council shall chair all meetings of the full council and will decide the issues on which the council will vote. They will act as the liaison between the Grad Council, COM Graduate Affairs, and the COM Dean.
Duties: The vice-president external is responsible for assisting the president in the representation of the Grad Council to COM Grad Affairs and the COM Dean. They shall serve as an ex-officio non-voting member of all committees. They will be responsible for all publicity and recruitment for the Grad Council and for Grad Council events. They, with the assistance of other members, are responsible for coordinating events, unless otherwise specified by the president.
Duties: The vice president internal is responsible for the organizational operations of the Grad Council. They shall coordinate Grad Council meetings, facilitate elections during the fall, appoint voting members and non-voting members to committees, and maintain the budget.
Duties: The secretary shall be responsible for maintaining minutes of all meetings, maintaining a schedule of all events and meetings, and for the creation of emails and messages to Grad Council members, committee non-voting members, and to the COM graduate cohort on behalf of the Grad Council.
Duties: A master’s student selected to represent the whole cohort of master’s (MS, MA and MFA) students.

Duties: Head of the Professional Development Committee, which helps to coordinate events, workshops, and other pertinent career-oriented programs and activities. They may also represent opinions of graduate students to the Dean’s office, the Grad Affairs office, the COM career office, and the respective departments in regards to any and all professional development issues.
Duties: Head of the Social Affairs Committee, which assists the Graduate Affairs office in the development and execution of social events for COM graduate students.

A PhD student selected to represent the whole cohort of PhD students.
Remote Representative
The Assistant Dean for Graduate Affairs shall select a student to represent portions of the graduate cohort studying abroad.
