John Hall

Our 13 tutors, who have a wide range of writing and teaching experience, come from several COM graduate programs. This spring we have three new tutors joining the ten veteran tutors. I have listed their backgrounds below.


Writing Fellows:

Faith Amenn (Screenwriting)

Faith Amenn

Faith graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. in English. While in college, she interned for New York-based casting and management offices, where she read and wrote coverage on unproduced scripts.

Jeturi Brown (Advertising)

Jeturi Brown

Jeturi graduated from Claflin University with a B.A. in mass communications. While there he wrote sports articles for the school newspaper.  He also worked in the communications department at Visteon, where he wrote company news stories and press releases.

Paul Coleman (Screenwriting)

Paul Colemon

Paul received B.S. degrees in communications media and English literature from Fitchburg State University.  He has spent several years working in film and television production as a screenwriter and production assistant.  He also worked as a TA for COM 101.

Paige Colley (Journalism)

Paige Colley

Paige received her B.A. in physics and a minor in English literature from New York University. Following graduation, she spent a gap year back home interning at the Anchorage Museum, where she wrote and developed programming for learning engagement. She also worked as assistant coach for her old high school debate team, helping students write debate cases and shaping acting pieces for performance.

Mikayla Heiss (Journalism)

Mikayla Heiss

Mikayla Heiss graduated from SUNY Brockport with a B.S. in English and environmental science. While there, Heiss was a teaching assistant for the Department of Chemistry. Heiss also created videos and infographics for the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center.

Pete Johnson (Film and TV Studies)

Pete Johnson

Pete graduated with B.S. degrees in Film & Television and Business Administration from BU. After graduation, Pete worked in various areas of the film and television industry in Los Angeles, including development, finance, sales, and distribution. In addition to working as a TA for Understanding Film, he has experience writing film and television theory/criticism, industry analysis, and script coverage.

Emily Leclerc (Journalism)

Emily Leclerc

Emily graduated from Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia with a B.A. in biology and a minor in music. She often assisted her peers with editing their writing and ran study groups. She was also a staff reporter for Roanoke’s school newspaper The Brackety Ack.

Nia Perkovich (PR)

Nia Perkovich

Nia graduated from Lynn University with a B.A. in advertising and public relations. As an undergrad, she served as a copy editor and contributing writer for the school newspaper. Nia has had several internships at PR and marketing agencies, where she gained experience in campaign research and development. She also works as a teaching assistant for Understanding Media (CM180).

Kendall Tamer (Journalism)

Kendall Tamer

Kendall graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with her B.A. in creative writing, English literature, and theatre, with a minor in psychology. While at SUNY Plattsburgh, she was an editorial intern for a literary magazine and participated in many writing workshops. She has also been a freelance writer for Lake Champlain Weekly and Northern Exploring Magazine.

Ernie Tremper (Film/TV Studies)

Ernie Tremper

Ernie received a B.A. in film studies and nonfiction writing from the University of Pittsburgh. He has written extensively in the film studies field. Last fall, Ernie worked as a CO101 teaching assistant.

Nicole Williams (TV Production)

Nicole Williams

Nicole earned her B.A. degree in African American studies at the University of Florida. She also had a double minor in mass communications and sociology. During school, she published several articles for her college paper, and worked with the Oral History Program to create a digital history installation. After graduating, she worked as a communications intern for a local company and joined the National Association of Black Journalists.

Yvonne Wang (Advertising)

Yvonne Wang

Yvonne graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University with a B.A. in English. She worked as an English tutor, teaching high school students grammar and writing. She has had advertising and marketing internships, working for clients such as Hennessy and Burger King. Yvonne is also working as a teaching assistant for CM180 this semester.

Alice Zhang (PR)

Alice Zhang

Alice graduated from Communication University of China, with a background in market research. She has internship experience in feature news, new media, and public relations in both China and the U.S.
