Full-Time Faculty Example
Here’s an example to illustrate how these benefits work.
David is a regular full time Faculty Member who has been working at BU for two years. David may not need to take leave this year, but he wants to understand his potential benefits. He considers three scenarios.
Scenario 1: David’s serious health condition |
•David qualifies for personal medical leave:
= 100% of pay for up to 26 weeks |
In scenario 1, David has a serious health condition. In this case, he is eligible for up to 26 weeks of leave at full pay.
Scenario 2: David’s spouse’s serious health condition |
•David qualifies for family medical leave:
= 100% of pay for up to 12 weeks |
In scenario 2, David needs to care for his spouse, who has a serious health condition. In this case, he is eligible for 12 weeks of leave at full pay.
Scenario 3: David’s brother returns injured from overseas deployment |
•David qualifies for family leave for active service members:
= 100% of pay for up to 26 weeks |
In scenario 3, David needs to care for his brother who has returned injured from overseas deployment. In this case, he is eligible for up to 26 weeks of leave at full pay.
