Full-Time Faculty Example

Here’s an example to illustrate how these benefits work.

David is a regular full time Faculty Member who has been working at BU for two years. David may not need to take leave this year, but he wants to understand his potential benefits. He considers three scenarios.

Scenario 1: David’s serious health condition

David qualifies for personal medical leave:

=  100% of pay for up to 26 weeks

In scenario 1, David has a serious health condition. In this case, he is eligible for up to 26 weeks of leave at full pay.

Scenario 2: David’s spouse’s serious health condition

David qualifies for family medical leave:

=  100% of pay for up to 12 weeks

In scenario 2, David needs to care for his spouse, who has a serious health condition. In this case, he is eligible for 12 weeks of leave at full pay.

Scenario 3: David’s brother returns injured from overseas deployment

David qualifies for family leave for active service members:

=  100% of pay for up to 26 weeks

In scenario 3, David needs to care for his brother who has returned injured from overseas deployment. In this case, he is eligible for up to 26 weeks of leave at full pay.
